My whole week has been awesome. it was filled with christian activities. You;d think that Art School, let alone ART SCHOOL IN AMERICA would have so much christian stuff going on. My school has 2 christian fellowship, CSF and RUF which operates on Tuesdays and Wednesdays respectively. and then I have the awesome kickass bible study - Downpour on Thursday nights followed by Bible study by CSF at bull st baptist church on sunday mornings followed by normal church service and a college students lunch fellowship and then at 7.30 there's 180 which is a youth fellowship for college students. WHEEEEEE :D :D

On saturday evening the bible study grp took us out to Weston Gardens which is a retreat centre that belongs to the church (it was donated to them) and it's like on this island surrounded by a lake with gorgeous holiday houses and lo
g cabins and a small open area where we can have a grill and next to it is a camp site :D The bus came to pick us up at the dorm and there we were chugging along. a whole bus full of us freshman girls :D

we were there kayaking and obviously...i can't take my
camera along with me :( sad. it was so fun :) michelle and i just can't go in a straight line though and it was nice and peaceful with the sun setting and ducks and birds around us and yeah...the weather was awesome. like it got hotter again, but it was cool but not too cold to kayak in fbts :)

the seniors were really nice to help us get into and out of our kayaks, but we had to carry our kayaks from the house to the dock and after that i just couldn't feel my arms. but it was a damn good workout! :D

then we had a bbq. which was all ready for us by joe and gang by the time we got back from kayaking. hotdogs and burgers and chips :) not the kind of stuff i get at bbqs back home. this is like the american bbq man. haha. after which we had a campfire going. it was massive and it was SOOO hot we couldn't roast our marshmallows after a short while. picture below!! we used MASSIVE crates thingy to burn. oh yeah. and we use twigs to poke our marshmallows to roast them over the fire. like we just pick them off the ground and put our marshmallows through. no sterilization or whatever. like in barney :D

we started out really small...we had a big of a pyrogenic problem but then they got all crazy with the palm leaves and spanish moss. ..which resulted in...TAADAAAA...BOOM. no more making smores over the fire.

the fire just got bigger. so no more roasting marshmallows over the fire :(  so smores are basically roasted marshmallows sandwiched between two chocolate biscuits and a square of 6 rectangles of hershey chocolates and it is SOOO GOOD. picture of me and my stick and my smore :D my very first smore :D that's me standing inside the bbq hut with tables and stuff..like those cabins u see on tv in the US :)

church wasn't quite what i expected cos it leaned towards the traditional side with hymns and stuff, but the sermon was good and i did enjoy the sermon. the people there are fantastic. and they prepare lunch for us college students and we sit down for fellowship and stuff. so i signed myself up for a small grp and i'm putting myself up for adoption so i can have some "parents" from the church to take care of me and bring me out for dinner and provide a place to stay when i need to. haha. yay ness :D

soo..this weekend is thankfully less stressful. just a chapter of reading for art history, shading practice for 2d Design and 8 drawings for drawing. which was the most stressful cos we had to draw cubes at different eye levels and we had to make sure the lines were straight and parallel where they should be and no rulers or straight line drawing. so i haven't gotten back my first project for 2d design...but here is my second one. shading using black micron pens and the usual gradients followed by using gradient to create volumes, using pure shading, no lines allowed. TAADAA!!

ok. i haven't been updating or anything...so here goes now that i've gotten all my programs and gorgeous 20" imac :D :D :D

TAKE A DEEP BREATH!!!
YES. I CAM WHORE. BUT VERY SELDOM.
i always wanted to do a stupid filmstrip of my horrendous journey on the plane and now that i'm all by myself and i won't be embarassed or whatsoever, I DID IT >.<

the plane ride really wasn't so bad. one reason being cos there was so few people on the plane that like everyone was changing seats and choosing what they preferred. i had a whole row of 3 seats all to myself so i could like lie down and sleep.

there wasn't much movies to watch so i was pretty bored. i only caught like indiana jones, spiderwick chronicles and maid of honor for the movies. i watched a few musicals which was pretty boring > cats (which hell i have no idea what it was all about.) and joseph and the technicolor coat. ACK. it was horrible.  so yeah. i spent most of the time sleeping. AND I REALISED DURING THIS PLANE RIDE, THAT THE AIR IN THE PLANE IS REALLY DRY AND IT SUCKS ALL MOISTURE OUT OF YOU. like when i woke up from my sleep, my skin was so dry it was taut (WHO NEEDS BOTOX WHEN U HAVE PLANE RIDES???) and like even my palm lines were gone :S

oh crap. i think i blogged about this before...oh nevermind..just bear with me while i recap.

sooo...beautiful and gorgeous savannah airport...not big..but still beautiful :D this is inside the airport by the way.

my dorm room. the first picture shows how the room looked and was set up when we first arrived. check out my bed. i finally have a comforter that i can use :D ain't it gorgeous?? i did my own bed :D yes. i can do it. i am not THAT spoilt.

so yeap. this isn't really how our dorm looks like. it's messier cos of all our projects and supplies. but it's still neat. only the tables and dressers are messy. ahhaa. but our room is already the nicest and neatest compared to all our friends. it's the cleanest as well cos everyone else wears their shoes into their room. this is something i don't get. WHY DO THEY WEAR SHOES INTO THEIR HOUSES?!??! it's so gross.

and since our floor is nice and clean, we can lie down to do our work and watch movies on our computer using jill (my roommate)'s laptop.

so you see. i haven't died without a maid and i realised i do have a mild form of OCD. i love sweeping the floor. it's really strange cos like even though we are living in an air con room, the room gets dusty really fast :S so does the toilet. and ya. i can't stand it. at home it never gets dusty except like corners...like the floor never gets dirty. actually it does..just that my maid cleans it before i wake up. so when i wake up, it's clean. haha. but that doesn't happen in the dorm. haha. and yes. i clean up after my own self. it's just a survival instinct. i'm not that spoilt after all. WHEEE :D

Savannah is gorgeous and i'm really really really enjoying myself. here. it was initally hot like singapore and slightly humid as well. so it kinda burst my bubble when i landed in savannah and stepped out waiting to embrace the nice fresh and cool air, but NOOOOO....it felt exactly like singapore! so orientation was horrible in the sense that we had to walk around savannah in the hot sun and stuff. but then....one day..when we got up the next morning, it got cool! like SUDDENLY! the temperature dropped to like 24 degrees and yesterday it was 18 degrees. i was cold :(

i would put up more shots of savannah now and then. not now cos blogger is stupid and it's not easy to shift pictures around. it's stupid that every picture you upload gets placed at the start of the entry and it takes forever to shift it down to where you want it to go :(

so picture of the day:
GAY COMMUNITY BUILDING. HELLO RAINBOW FLAG :D
yes. it is a gay community place. i know that cos like i was educated about rainbow flags by aunty selena at church office and also cos there was going to be a gay parade in town. even marc jacobs had a sale with mannequins wearing colourful rainbow tees with GAY PRIDE DAY spelt out.
there you go :)
this is an awesome place to study art. the architecture, the buildings etc. there's a crumbling building next to my dorm cos savannah has this thing that every building cannot be demolished. it has to fall down naturally :S so we have a very nice fenced up old crumbling building here to look at. it's awesome for photography and even to get inspirations for texture cos of all the rust and grungy-ness of it :) this place is awesome for 2d design.

speaking of which. last week's 2d project was just that! we had to use a viewfinder to crop images of objects and copy that onto 7" by 7" squares compositions after which we had to choose one with the best balance and follow the rule of third as well as those which have elements that lead the eye and hence have a form of continuity. and then ink that final composition and do an inverse of it. i spent 3 whole days on mine and i was uber proud of it. but after the class critique my heart was shattered and i felt super down :( me being me, like alot of details and stuff to fill the page. but you see..my class had a few girls. those cheerleader fashion kids that just can't clique with me kind. and they were like. oh i don't like it. it's too chaotic and messy and it's not balanced (which my professor said it was) and i was like :( i felt so bummed about that i didn't want to talk after that. sobb...

i hate critiques. one for what i had to receive about my artwork and hear people insult my pride and joy. and two for having to speak up in class which i absolutely hate :|

ah well. last weekend was truly insane and unlike everyone else around me who had time to go out and chill and party, i was stuck in my dorm room and in the classroom working my ass off cos my drawing professor gave us 16 drawings to complete. that is 4 life size drawings on a 18" by 24" drawing pad. i spent a total of 6-8 hours working on it. it's insane. thus...2d design project plus drawings plus an essay from 2d design and 5 chapters of reading worth bout 100++ pages long and art history readings to do....i almost died. but somehow...I SURVIVED!

and yes. despite how much homework i have or how tired i am from all of it, i am satisfied. i take pride in my work and it's been such joy :) i do not regret going to art school at all and i can honestly say, this is where i belong (not in america, but in art school)

i'm even enjoying art history loads. not the class cos i have a horrible professor, but rather, from doing my own reading of the text. it's been mighty interesting where i learn about the walls of jericho which came tumbling down after they marched 7 times around it and yelled. that's even more amazing cos i learnt that they were made of stone bricks and were 13 ft high and 5ft thick. that's like thicker than how tall i am can -__-. i could lie down on it and sleep if i even managed to get to the top. the strength of God!! and we also learn about the tower of babel and see how it looks like, and learn about the egyptian culture and gods and so much more :D wheeee

out of all my professors, i love ramsey the most. though he;s really tough and gives loads of homework, he's always so encouraging and he's really really nice to me. not like *ahem* wilkie tan who used to insult my drawings and all. ppfffttt.. seeing the works displayed in school motivates me to work hard and ONE DAY. yes ONE DAY..my work will be there, displayed as well. rather. i just want to reach that standard cos i want to keep my work. hahahhaa. yes yes. I WILL BE A GREAT ARTIST. TO HELL OF WHAT OTHER PEOPLE SAY. I WILL WORK HARD AND I WILL MAKE IT!!!

i never had such motivation before man! WHOOOTTT

social life wise, things have been very good. i havent felt homesick other than the first few days when i had no friends and i was pining for bobo and chrystal and my other friends. but mainly those 2 cos i spent so much of my time with them during the past mnth. but now i have friends and we hang out often and i have started to be myself once again, bouncing when i'm happy, doing rubbish and singing songs :) and we were brought together all because of bible study and church :)

yep. I have found spiritual support here and downpour (the bible study grp) is amazing. we had our first formal session yesterday and not only was dinner good, discussion was fantastic. the stuff the girls share and talk about was fantastic and i felt i was so encouraged and i learnt so much. my heart beats for downpour :) it makes me excited for God :D

so anyhows..i'm going to leave for Honey I Shrunk the Kids screening.

stay tuned for updates!!!
love you guys!!

i haven't died. i just didn't have access to a computer and the internet in my entire school was down. hahaha.

sooo.....time seems to pass really slowly here. i have no idea why. it's like the whole day is longer or smth. anyhows. orientation was rather boring since it consisted of talks and more talks which is really different from what we have at singapore with all the horrible games and forfeits which is absolutely fine with me since i'm an anti social buffoon who hates ice breakers and im just getting further spoilt by escaping from them. ok...we did play a few ice breakers and it was pretty cool. instead of blow wind blow, we had an alternative form of I AM A DORK AND YOU ARE A DORK IF YOU ..... and instead of the good gloria, beautiful betty game, we had i'm gloria and i'm bringing gorrillas to the moon game. i had a really nice and enthu Orientation Assistant (OA) and she's super cute and fun to be with. only that i'm too boring to be hanging out with her and most of the time i have no idea how to respond to her. blah...it kinda sucks.

anyhows. apart from that we also have welcome week which consists of different performances or rather, comedians performing at night and it's been pretty wicked fun :D we had a hypnotist in on sunday and man. i laughed till i cried. so what happens is people from my school will volunteer to be hypnotised and make a fool out of themselves after which they can't remember a single thing. it was really funny cos they really seemed to have lost control of themselves and their brains and the weirdest part is that they look awake and conscious about it. i'll try to list down the entire show. sad that we can't record, but if u want to see what a hypnotist show is like...see if you can find one on youtube or smth.

1. they fall asleep and some are like lying down on other another, some falling off their chairs
2. they are driving an awesome ferrari and you really see them putting on their seatbelt and when they are about to crash they actually jerk and stuff. it's pretty radical. and it's damn funny when they see a traffic policeman coming and then they pretend nothing has happened and then some of them show the middle finger. it's really interesting cos you see their natural response. and then there's a cow in the middle of the road blocking their way and suddenly they are thirsty. so all of them start milking the cow for milk to quench their thirst and there was this dude milking for his life's worth and another was like down on his back drinking straight from the cow's tits. haha. damn funny. etc
3. another segment is this dude believes tht fruits have feelings and he refuses to let the hypnotist eat them and he protects them and cuddles them and then he was hypnotised to be really hungry and then he starts eating them and he was so horrified he gave an apple a mouth to mouth and CPR it was soooo funnny. and then he believes he's a hero cos he saved the apple -___-'''
4. one girl is hypnotised to think that she's from pluto so she speaks in alien language and another guy is hypnotised to understand alien language and he translates it for us. HOW IT WORKS I'LL NEVER KNOW.
5. this two people were hypnotised to not be able to say their name. so everytime they say try to say their name their tongue fails to work but yet they can say other stuff like where theyre from. that was pretty cool.
6. a whole bunch of people believed they were controlled by a voodoo doll. so they danced according to how the hypnotist moved the doll and it was reallly interesting
7. a guy was hypnotised to believe that the show was a fake when the hypnotist says "blue" and to be absolutely in love with it when the hypnotist snaps his fingers twice. and my gosh. it's really drastic and it's scary how you can be fully controlled. i have no idea how it works, but it does! goodness gracious!
there are absolutely more acts and it's not as funny as how i state it, but it's really funny to watch. my OA's roommate was up on stage and she was hypnotised to be in a clubbing state with a whole bunch of other people and man. she rocked the stage with her dance moves. another two people were like grinding one another and the hypnotist immediately took them out of it. and they just walked back like nothing happened!! so strange

sooo...classes have started and by far all seems to be going well. i'm even excited for art history class. i mean. who wouldn't!?!?!? we'll be covering architectural history of greek, egyptian, gothic, roman buildings and sculptures and christian art! i'm excited. and the best part??? NO ESSAYS! AWESOME :D

people here are superbly outgoing and they talk all kinds of crap. like SERIOUSLY. we have tests for all our first classes to see how much we learn by the time we finish this quarter and this dude goes " CAN WE ILLUSTRATE?" like this will never happen in Singapore kind. and the teacher just goes oh..you're not supposed to know the stuff anyway. just be creative and have fun with the test. hahaha. way to go!! i wrote question marks and "haha" and smiley faces next to some of my answers cos i was writing rubbish for most of it anyway.

alrighty. gotta go for class!

MISS YOU GUYS LOADS!

i am miserable right now at the thought of being laptopless for the next 3 mnths. WOE IS ME.
my mum is being all overjoyed at the fact that the school says i don't need a computer cos i can use the ones in school and the nearest computer lab is the one at dyson hse but i'm living at turner hse and it's not say very near and safe to walk esp at night and my scad card doesn't even let me in for now...and even if i DO get a computer it'll be an i mac without any programs cos i'll have to wait till the professors can smuggle me free stuff which is hell i don't even know when which means no more photoshop and shit for me. dang...i;m sounded like a black in my head even as i type this.

it doesnt help that i'm so easily influenced so i have so many different accents in my head right now echoing away even as i type this. i'm fluctuating between singaporean accent with my mum, sometimes black accent and sometimes white. i'm such a poor confused soul.

anyhows. orientation here is really quite terrible. i mean. in singapore it's full of torture games. here it's full of talks and talk and talks. even for my 2 hrs worth of "fun activities" weren't even much fun. my grp leader didn't even prepare or plan anything so all we did was like sit in a circle and introduce ourselves and then fill in our particulars and feedback form and other grps around us were like playing games. that was like just sooooo unfair. but hell. i shouldn't complain since i'm such an anti social buffoon anyway.

anyhows. my new found friends of the day or rather. people i hung out with today were binh from vietnam and ashley from the bahamas. the one with the really colourful hair sister - amy. they are the coolest people i know. they practically live in a zoo with like 3 dogs here and 5 back over in the bahamas and like....one dunno-what python, one bearded dragon and one more reptile and fishes. but that's not theirs. they own only the cool stuff. hahaha.

ashley being familiar with savannah took us on a walking tour to Ex Libris, the school bookstore which is OVERPRICED. i swear. everyone knows it's a blood sucking machine and any school apparel you buy will just label you as ROB ME cos everyone knows how expensive SCAD is.

ah wells. interesting life will start soon...realll soon. jill will be arriving tmr! whooo!! roommate meeting session :)

Wednesday, September 10, 2008

hey everyone.

i've got more or less everything settled except my computer cos my mum's being all grumpy and everything is shit right now. got really pissed off with her yesterday cos there was so many things to settle and she was being the whole know it all and i was very very annoyed. this is what you get when you put two stubborn people together. haha. sigh...i'm laptopless so i'm miserable and i have to resort to using the school's computer which is sooo ma fan! STUPID BROTHER OF MINE TOOK MY LAPTOP. OTHERWISE THINGS WILL BE FINE AND DANDY. I AM GRUMPY :

i'm glad i'm moving into dorm tonight. even if it means being all alone and scared by myself. PFFTTT :( i miss my friends :(

i'm feeling very lost right now. orientation is full of empty slots so here i am with a new found friend from the bahamas and her sister. we are all horrible friend makers. hahaha. her sis worked in some dolphin place and they are showing me pictures of the really beautiful dolphin lagoons and stuff like that. plus their 5 rottweilers. SICK LA.

blum blum....BLOOP. OH PACEY. we shall set our wedding date now. you and me same brain. i wanted to give you a surprise...but stoopid cheryl spoilt it. DANGGGGG. but it's fine. our wedding planning is going fine now :)

interesting facts in my life..
1. yesterday while getting my housing settled, there was this goth dude next to me. he had green and black eyeliner on him and his hair was black and green at the bottom and he was uber pale like a vampire..then again...all goth dudes are so pale. i wonder why and how they do it :S

2. not sure if i posted this up already, but there was this news feature about a guy getting attacked with a sausage. haha. YEAH. like retarded. apparently it's just a slice of normal everyday life in america. OH STRANGE PEOPLE.

3. i dreamt that amy got a new hair cut that was pretty cool but weird at the same time. haha. she was quite irritated with her new hair cut so she wasn't happy.

4. i dreamt i could run UBER FAST and i won in a race and everyone wasn't happy with me so they didn't want to friend me :(

5. i keep dreaming of my friends and being back in Singapore. haha

I'M BORED AND HUNGRY. ooohh..taco mexican lunch today i think...
