FIRST DRAWING OF THE YEAR IS FINALLY DONE!!!!
"The Smiling Buddha"
18 "x 24"
Soft Compressed Charcoal on White Charcoal Paper
done in.... 15.5 hrs (this includes thumbnailing compositions, experimental media thumbnails included)

so you see....we art students never understand why other students in business schools/liberal arts complain about spending 4 hrs writing a paper. We art student spend a minimum of 7 hours working on a SMALL project. sure. we don't really use our brains in the process sometimes, but we have to breathe in charcoal, get dirty and stand on our feet all the time. and worse of all. if the still life is in the studio, you have to make your way down there in order to do ur work. no matter what time, no matter what the weather is like.

so yes. in order to complete this still life of buddha and his pipe friends, i spent 3 nights at anderson hall till about 11pm/12am working on it. of course, in the process i made more drawing friends though sadly, they are in the other section, not in mine. and this is why we put in so much pride and joy in our work. AND THIS IS WHY I TOTALLY DESPISE PEOPLE WHO OBVIOUSLY DID NOT PUT IN ANY EFFORT INTO THEIR WORK AND HAND IN SHIT. i empathize with you if you lack the skills, but SERIOUSLY, IF YOU CAN'T BE BOTHERED TO EVEN WORK AND YOU'RE WASTING PRECIOUS CLASS SPACE THAT OTHER HARDWORKING STUDENTS WANT TO HAVE, then you've not only lost my respect for you, but you also earned by utter disgust for you.

ahem. anyways. i honestly had a pretty good time doing this challenging still life. finally no longer stuck with ramsey's cylinders, cones, and spheres and on to more organic life forms. haha. was abit apprehensive at first cos i was never trained to draw human figures. I've been taught the proper way to draw proper cylinders and ellipses and bottles and vases, but not anything else! nonetheless, i had no choice but to jump into this and i didn't even bother using sighting and measuring. i just cheated with my handy dandy grided view finder that we made during DRAWING 1 class to get my proportions right :)

TA. DAAAAAAA.....first drawing of the year :) here's to better drawings (in color too) in the near future :)
