sakura (jap food) with maggie, michelle and laura. it's strange how there's always a silver lining in things. u see....alyssa (michelle and laura's roommate) got hospitalised over winter break so she's not back in the dorms for this quarter and so laura has no choice but to hang out with crazy michelle and me. so during this few days we got closer and cold laura is finally warm to michelle and i and we can finally go out for meals without that awkward silences :) yay!
anyhows. to the main point of blogging. i was just about to head out for dinner with sandra and i started hearing this shout of SHIT and like the sound of water POURING. so i just thought like some idiot hit a sprinker or smth and it started bursting water. but when i opened my door. OMG. there was NIAGARA FALLS right outside my door and i was like.....WOW. great *in the most sarcastic way* some pipe burst or apparently some kid WAS INDEED PLAYING SOCCER IN THE HALLWAY and the ball hit the ceiling and caused the pipe to explode or smth. anyhoos, i panicked like crazy and grabbed like towels to soak up the water in case it gets to my room cos it was SERIOUSLY travelling to my room at the speed of 1000 miles per second (ok. abit of exaggeration but yea..it was fast) and i had to leave quick cos the fire alarm sounded and we had to leave. so i left to meet sandra (my adopted mum) and her good friend/roomie for dinner at the shrimp factory. OH MY GOSH. AWESOME SHIT THEY GOT THERE. the seafood and salad is oh so amazing. and when i say the salad is amazing it is cos i dun like my veggies. so that was HOW good it was. yes yes. i was so stuffed after eating that plate of salad i had trouble finishing my plate of stuff which was kinda a waste. deviled crab stuffed in fantail shrimp baked in some yummy butter sauce with baked chicken rice. YUM.
anyhoos. they got me rushed back to the dorms to check out what the heck is happening and i wasn't allowed in my room. the whole hallway, basement to second floor was out of bounds from rooms 1 to 12. We got like directed to scafe where they took attendance and briefed us about what was going to happen. the poor RAs were like scrambling around like headless chickens trying to solve our issues and questions. after like a few hours of waiting at the "refugee camp" we were finally told that there were hotel rooms (it was some dolphin reef hotel or smth) booked for us on tybee island cos our rooms were inhabitable. haha. we were all like AWESOME. and i was just wondering how i was gonna get there to go my drawing sketchbook assignments. LOL. SWEET.
anyhows. we were given 10 minutes back in the dorms to grab our stuff and to check out the "damage". i didn't really expect my room to be totally soaked from wall to wall cos we had ALOT of cloth including a GINORMOUS RUG to soak up the water but cos my stuff is straight through the door all my stuff got soaked. on the bright side, i packed my room that morning so alot of my stuff were saved by God's grace. seriously. if i didn't pack my room that morning that would be all my art supplies, my textbooks worth about 250 USD, clothes, bags and even my laptop. so yea. i have to be thankful. plus, not to mention the fact that none of my clothes are "designers" so i dun have anything badly damaged :)
sadly though, my emergency bag of important documents got soaked including my passport so my visa and passport is kinda screwed cos the ink got washed out. crap. gonna have to make my way down to habersham hall to the international people to get it checked out and see what can be done. oh wells
so this was my first "road trip" down to tybee island and it was kinda fun. got to know the people down in my hallway better, so in a sense it was a good thing this happened. the put us in this hotel and they gave us a free breakfast and michelle and i spent the whole night blowdrying and ironing my bank and immigration documents the whole entire night till like 3am. so that was fun. my thumbnail sketches done during drawing was ruined cos it was half soaked and the ink got diffused. so i have to re-do them :( bummer. loads of precious time wasted cos of this whole drama incident.
anyhoos. laura and michelle dragged me out of the hotel room at like 1am to go to the beach and it was SO COLD. but it was GORGEOUS. the beach was like a vast land no trees to block, but pure sand and sea and it looked never ending. like u could use a ruler and draw 3 lines to divide the sand/land, sea and sky. that was how calm everything was, and the sky was gorgeously dotted with pretty stars big and small :) so we sang and danced and scream on the very very fine sand in the cold cold wind, freezing our faces off before we headed back to the room. oh fun. pity everything in our rooms was settled before 12 so we didn't get a chance to head to the beach after that in the day where we would get a different view, but the horizon lines were still so clear and clean that you would seriously think that the earth was square cos the edge was so sharp.
bus ride back was uber fun with the radio blarring good old songs like Backstreet Boy's I Want It That Way and Destiny's Child "Say My Name" It seriously looked like a scene from the movies where girls take road trips and belt out along with the radio. it was so funny with people mouthing the words and acting and some dancing along. we had a great laugh :D
so here i am, back to my dorm, thankfully nothing got damaged.
here's to michelle and laura who kinda helped me dry and save my stuff :)
[edit]
somehow, i dunno how, my stuff were actually less damaged than my roommates :S nicole had a whole bunch of branded stuff and electronics under her bed, which got totally soaked. and i dunno why, but like of the 3 of us, the area under my bed was dry :S which is strange cos theirs was like SOAKED. as in like....PUDDLE. like u take a pail of water and pour it over there kind of soaked. oh well.
sooo...after drying all my what nots and sorting things out after this flood aftermath, i got peer pressured into heading back to tybee for the gorgeous beach in the day so in the end i DID manage to get there. it;s so different from Singapore's beach. like the sand is realllll nice and it's strangely solid, compared to the sinky sand in Singapore :S and gosh was it cold, but i still wore shorts there nonetheless and had mighty fun with kel (who drove), ruthie, mich and laura :) oh happy eventful day <3
