so below is my first try with pastels...a master copy of an impressionist painting as mentioned in the past post. scroll down to see the actual thing.

working with pastels was quite a pain in the butt. it was soooo messy and i had to use my eraser to clean lil mac cos he was covered with pastel dust. AND....it dries up ur skin. so like despite using moisturising cream and what nots....my hand still feels like a shrivelled prune. so here. full pastel drawing, self taught on blending and getting the colors. all u see here above is colors that are mixed. not straight out of the pastel stick. skin tones are the PAIN IN THE BUTT. cos u have to apply a layer of red....to give them blood. otherwise they'll look too yellow. and then u have to mix other colors. skin tone involved red, beige, yellow, orange, brown, burnt umber, light pink, lilac, blue and sometimes green.
it's amazing how different colors create different effects.
prof baronian gave me a high 5 for improving on renoir's bg. hahhaa. RICH SATURATED COLORS. my love.....my prof didn't think i could finish this. and i did. TAKE THAT! in under 3 days. she expected....30 hrs out for this? think i worked...less than 20. HUR HUR. i had fun trying to make the strokes look like brush strokes. it's the color mixing that was pissing me off. smudge and u get a murky color. HOW NOW BROWN COW???
and here below...is a project/study on translucency. there's supposed to be an overlap between the pink/red and the yellow, but after mixing it with tints and tones, the color changed ALOT. poot. maybe cos i didn't use the actual color mixed. it was so neon and gross. had to use it's tints and tones instead to get the highlights and shadows for the dog. so here's ACRYLIC PAINT on canvas. painted areas are the boxes of colors. the rest was printed. this is by the way...OPAQUELY painted. ie i couldn't see what's underneath. so every detail, fur, cloud, water that u see...is PAINTED. i have finally mastered painting. yay to me.

CLOSE UP!

YAY. i've completed all that i need to and now on to more projects :)
procrastinated a lil bit due to superbowl on sunday. another american experience - watching a football game and party. wasnt very much fun...felt abit the zzzz if u dun really support a team. had peeps (really just marshmellows. dunno what the fuss is about) and my first cup of doctor pepper which tastes like our kids cough syrup. prefer coke as the king of sodas.
so one down....many more american life experience left for me.
